Citizendium, the rival twin of wikipedia

28. August 2007
Unbelievable but true - TimesOnline and the Guardian have revealed that larger companies are editing  their entries in Wikipedia in order to  brush up their public image in the free online encyclopedia. If we are truely honest - who would not do the same....

Wikipedia is among  the top ten of most visited websites (it has Rank 9 on Alexa). Several times the website has been criticized  for their way of editing and in consequence of this the rather high possibility to hold inaccurate and nonsense articles. The fact that anyone can edit articles degrades the quality of the content and has raised the question of the credibility of the authors.

Larry Sanger, ex co-founder of Wikipedia and new competitor, has launched a new services about 6  months ago - his online encyclopedia Citizendium. The big difference to Wikipedia's service are  editor experts. The website is also open to public collaboration but  volunteer contributors don't remain anonymous. Authors have to provide their real names and  the accuracy of their articles is checked and approved by experts. The goal of Larry Sanger was precisely to avoid all the criticism that Wikipedia is now facing.
