The World is not enough! - A Google & Gphone story
09. August 2007
It looks like the Search Engine “Giant” Google has been inspired from the recent launch of Apple's new iPhone in the US. Countless articles, as found in THE TIMESONLINE, have speculated about Google's mobile phone venture and it's reason to 'go mobile' - is it time to put ideas and plans into action?
Lets look at the facts:
The mobile advertising market is growing fast and is set to be more than 11.3 billion annually in 2011. Google can extend its dominance of online advertising by offering free services like google maps, google mail through Gphone's pre-installed applications which of cause are subsidised by advertising revenues.
Many speculations go around this, one of them saying that Google's potential new phone would have its very own Google operating system. But this is not all. Google has already discussed partnerships with operators and mobile manufacturers like Orange , T-mobile or LG. If we can believe 'Big G' the aim is not to compete with brands like Nokia who control 36.2% of the mobile market, but only to get their share of the advertising market which is very targeted and therefore more attractive for businesses.
