Google AdSense – easy money?

27. July 2007
How about making some profit with your website? All you need to do is to provide space for small advertisements in relation to your website's content. The magic word is: Google AdSense.

Google AdSense is a service which places ads on websites and pays the owner for each click or pageview the advert receives. The scheme is the counterpart of the Google AdWords program. The ads are being selected automatically by Google but are corresponding with the selected website. A crawler is reading the content of the particular website and feeds through matching adverts. In addition you can filter out various attributes - as of course no one wants to feature your competitors on your own website.

First you need to register with the AdSense program, your site will be included if your website meets a certain level of quality. Google offers you a toolbar with which you can adapt the ads to the design of your website. In addition to that you can adjust their size and format.

Payment time!

Google is keeping a low key attitude about the payment. The advertisers pay Google for posting ads, but the final share of that amount going to the website's owner where the ad is posted is still unknown. The average payment per valid click is said to be 0.20$. According to a New York Times article Google spends approximately 78.5% of the AdWords income for AdSense ads.

Logically, click fraud is not far, since it seem to be an easy way to earn money by clicking on the ads on your own page again and again and again. But Google is carefully observing all AdSense participants and actions taken. Whoever offends those rules will be banned from the AdSense program.
