MySpace and Skype: a new team
17.October 2007
MySpace users will soon be able to make phone calls to each other as the social network site made a partnership with the internet phone company Skype.
This service will be available by the end of November 2007. As the 2 companies claim to be the worlds largest online voice connected community, with 110 million MySpace users and 220 million from Skype.
The concept
Free internet calls will be possible between MySpace and Skype users. MySpace users will also have the possibility to pay for land line or mobile phones calls through this application as it will be integrated into MySpace's existing instant messaging feature. No additional download of software will be required.
The deal of this new partnership is to increase pressure on traditional telecoms companies, who are battling to save margins in the face of virtually free internet calls. But it is aimed also to improve the way people can communicate online with each other.
