Is Yahoo catching up on Google?
Yahoo! has improved its search engine by creating a new " Search Assist " tool. The aim is to win market share from the search giant Google, leader of the search market and also resolve a problem of consumers called "internet search fatigue".
Indeed Yahoo! will propose ways to phrase a search as a user types into the query box and will produce more links to photos, music and videos on the main results page.
This new search tool will also pull information from Yahoo's calendar service:Upcoming.org to highlight local events to a search request .
The study by 'Harris interactive' reported that 99 % of adults online use a search engine to find information online but only 15% of them find what they looking for on their first search. They have to conduct a search three or four times to find what they are looking for.
The manager of Yahoo! Search said that they make the changes to give the best answers to their consumers. This internet search fatigue damages yahoo's earning and profit and also has a dramatic effect on their market shares too. In August 2007, Yahoo market share represented 23% of U.S Search market compared to 56.5 % for Google. Two years ago, Yahoo market share(32 %) was only 3 points away from Google (35%).
The gap between the two search engines is going to be hard to fill but it is certainly worth trying!
